implemented the dspam solution

Not so, it was the MySQL driver that clapped out (could not find users)
irrespective of whether dspam was running as daemon or called from a
separate script (cron job).

As I wrote, I do not have this problem with 3.8.0, dspam is installed
from my own rpm spec both on FC6 and RHEL5.
